Frequently Asked Questions

For Ohio counselors to earn their supervision designation (“S”), they need 24 hours of continuing education credits in specified areas or have a graduate course in supervision, along with some other requirements. Workshops Parts 1 through 4 meet the educational requirements for counselors.

For Ohio licensed independent social workers (LISW) to earn their supervision designation (“S”), they need 9 hours of supervision continuing education credits, but the areas are not specified. Thus, social workers can take any two workshops to meet the requirements. However, most chose Part 4 or Part 5 as part of the combination because those workshops can provide 3 hours supervision and 3 hours ethics. That allows one to earn the required nine supervision CEUs and as well as the three ethics CEUs required for license renewal.

For Ohio chemical dependency professionals to earn their supervision designation (“CS”), requirements include 30 hours of continuing education supervision CEUs. Twenty of those hours are in specified content areas and 10 are miscellaneous supervision CEUs. Workshops Parts 1 through 5 meet the educational requirements for chemical dependency professionals to earn their CS.

No, Ohio marriage and family therapists must complete the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) 30-hour supervision course, an approved equivalent, or other experience and the AAMFT supervision refresher course to earn their “S.” However, once a therapist has an IMFT-S license, the workshops can be used for renewing that license.

If you have more than one license, you earn CEU credits for all licenses and the credits can be counted in different ways. For example, if a counselor or social worker with a chemical dependency license took Part 5, it could be counted as 3 hours supervision and 3 hours ethics for the counseling or social worker license and 6 hours supervision for the chemical dependency license. Similarly, a psychologist with a chemical dependency license could take Part 4 and earn 6 hours ethics for the psychology license and 6 hours supervision for the chemical dependency license.

For all professionals registered under the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board, all workshops are approved for 6 hours of supervision CEUs. Alternatively, Part 4 and Part 5 can be taken as 3 hours supervision and 3 hours ethics. The Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board has approved all workshops for supervision related CEUs for those who have a LICDC and other types of credits for other license holders—CE Broker details those credits. The Ohio Psychological Association Office of Mandatory Continuing Education has approved all workshops—there is no supervision specific requirements for psychologists. Parts 4 and Part 5 are approved for 6 hours ethics for psychologists.

While the series does build somewhat as we progress through the material, one is not required to take the workshops in sequence. Indeed, many people do not take the series in sequence for a variety of reasons.

Part 5 (Group Supervision) was not part of the original workshop sequence. It was added to help chemical dependency professionals meet the education requirements for the supervision designation and to offer another license renewal option (i.e., in addition to Part 4) for those registered with the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. When it appears in the series varies—beginning, middle, or end—but that does not affect the flow of the material.

You can take any workshop to renew your “S” as all professions registered under the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board need 3 hours of supervision credits for their renewal and all workshops are approved for 6 hours of supervision CEUs. However, taking Part 4 or Part 5 can earn 3 hours supervision and 3 hours ethics, completing license renewal requirements for both of those areas in a single workshop.

Generally, given the number of hours required to maintain one’s professional license and the variety of other options available, I do not offer CEU credits for half days. In addition, attending half days or obtaining partial credit for workshops in not allowed for Ohio licensed psychologists. However, for Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board registered professionals seeking supervision designation renewal, half-day morning attendance may be possible for workshops Part 4 and Part 5, but there is no way to register for that. If a half-day (3 CEUs) is what is desired, please contact me and we can determine whether I can accommodate your request.

You can take any workshop to renew your “CS” as 6 hours of supervision CEUs are required for LICDC-CS renewal.

Yes, attendees often participate in different series; however, there is not a way to sign up for that. Thus, just sign up for the 4- or 5-part series and indicate in the registration what different dates you want. You may also contact me, and I can make changes as needed. Also, attendees often need to do miss a workshop for “last minute” work or personal issues. In such cases, one would just take the missed workshop the next time it was offered—no additional charge.

The 5-part series is offered three times per year: Winter-Spring (January through April), Summer (late May, June, and July), and Fall (late August through November).

All workshops will be delivered via Zoom for the foreseeable future.

Cancelling 72 hours prior to a workshop will result in a full refund via check or credit card credit, depending upon how one paid for the workshop. One can cancel within 72 hours but will receive a credit for a future workshop rather than a full refund. If one cancels within 72 hours and does not want a workshop credit, then the refund will be reduced by $20. If an attendee purchased the entire series and cancels one or more of those workshops, then the series discount would be forfeited, which would affect the per workshop cost and the amount of the refund.

Workshops Part 4 and Part 5 are approved for 3 hours of ethics (and 3 hours supervision) for professionals registered with the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. For chemical dependency professionals, Part 4 is approved for S-2 (Professional and Ethical Standards for Clinical Supervisors) and C-9 (Legal and Ethical Issues in Counseling) CEU credits. For psychologists Part 4 and Part 5 are approved for 6 hours of ethics.

All workshops are approved by the Ohio Psychological Association Office of Mandatory Continuing Education. Part 4 and Part 5 are approved for 6 hours of ethics.
